In human plasma, the cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) plays a key role in lipoprotein metabolism by promoting the net mass transfer of cholesteryl esters from HDL towards apoB-containing lipoproteins, and the transfer of triglycerides from VLDL towards HDL and LDL.
